Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is pleased to announce that Dr. Andrea Waddell has accepted the position of Medical Director, Regional Programs. Dr. Waddell’s focus will be to lead clinical excellence, maximizing quality, advancing best practices and transforming the client experience for Waypoint’s Regional Programs. In addition to her current role as Medical Director Clinical Informatics & Quality Standards, Andrea will provide oversight to designated Regional Programs, with a focus on the Acute Assessment Program, Sans Souci Program for Transition and Recovery, and Bayview Program for Dual Diagnosis. Additionally, she will effectively partner with a range of community and hospital providers to activate the vision of a hospital without walls.

In April 2022, Dr. Waddell joined Waypoint as an outpatient staff psychiatrist and Medical Director, Quality Standards and Clinical Informatics. During her relatively short tenure at Waypoint, Dr. Waddell has led a tremendous amount of change. She has been instrumental in moving forward our strategic priority of developing a learning health system, and has been extremely effective in catalyzing change on clinical programs and in our shared Electronic Health Record across multiple hospitals.

Dr. Waddell is a highly respected member of our medical staff, eager to share her insights and learnings and contribute to broader program development and implementation. She brings with her knowledge and expertise as an Inpatient Medical Director at University Health Network, as well as experience on the Consent and Capacity Board. We welcome Dr. Waddell’s leadership at a clinical level, and her effective mentorship as she invests in the future of our medical leaders.

Dr. Waddell earned a master’s degree in Theory and Policy Studies from the University of Toronto. She completed a postgraduate certificate in Safety, Quality, Informatics and Leadership at Harvard University, and received advanced training in Healthcare Leadership from the Rotman School of Management. She is a Clinician Scientist for the Waypoint Research Institute, Affiliate Scientist for the Campbell Family Centre for Mental Health Research at CAMH, and the Ontario Health Central Region Co-Lead for Mental
Health and Addictions. She is the Associate Director of the Division of Adult Psychiatry and Health Systems for the Temerty Faculty School of Medicine at the University of Toronto.

As previously announced, Dr. Plabon Ismail will now formally step down as Medical Director, Regional Programs, to focus on other leadership activities and his long-awaited career in Forensic Psychiatry. We would like to thank him for his many years of experience and leadership.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Waddell to this leadership role, effective April 1.
