It was
with mixed emotions that we said farewell in November to Terry McMahon,
Vice-President of Human Resources and Organizational Development after five
years of exceptional service, but we are pleased to welcome Demetrios Kalantzis
into the role.
Demetrios
joins us from Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) where he was a member
of their senior leadership team; first as the Executive Director, Human
Resources, and then as the Executive Director, Healthcare, Recovery and
Return-to-Work Integration, where he supported recovery and return-to-work for
physical and psychological conditions and injuries.
Demetrios has a Master of Business Administration from the Ivey
School of Business at Western University, and a Bachelor of Arts, Industrial
Relations and Sociology (Honours) from the University of Toronto. Additionally,
he obtained the Workplace Mental Health Leadership Certificate from Queen’s
University and is a member of the Human Resources Professional Association. He
is also certified as
a Human Resources Leader and Certified Human Resources
Professional.
Also joining the Waypoint team are Barbara Jones as Director of
Professional Practice and Christopher Canning as Director of Research.
Barbara started her career in acute care, progressing from
professional practice leader roles to the director of performance excellence.
More recently, Barb has taken on more system level roles with the Central LHIN,
RPNAO, and VON Canada. She is also a qualified Mediator and demonstrates a
passion for professional practice and the provision of quality care to
patients.
Barb obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing; a Master of
Worldview Studies and a Masters in Science with other certifications such as
Alternate Dispute Resolution and Deep Democracy Facilitation.
With more than a decade of leadership experience, Christopher
comes to Waypoint as an innovative and collaborative health leader and
researcher in Canadian and international mental health contexts. Most recently,
Christopher was the Vice President, Partnerships and Knowledge Mobilization at
the Centre of Excellence on PTSD and Related Mental Health Conditions, where he
led strategic planning for all aspects of the Centre's knowledge mobilization
efforts. Christopher has also held progressive leadership roles at the Mental
Health Commission of Canada, most notably as Director, Programs and Priorities,
Mental Health and Substance Use.
Christopher obtained both his Master’s and PhD in Sociology from
Queen’s University, and a Bachelor of Arts, Sociology from the University of
Lethbridge. He was twice a post-doctoral scholar in the sociology and history
of medicine in the Department of Social Studies of Medicine at McGill.
Once they are both on-boarded fully, Barbara and Christopher will
co-chair the Evidence-Based Practice Advisory Council. The Council is an
important component of our strategic goal to embrace education, advance
research and seek, generate and apply best practice and new knowledge to create
the best possible outcomes for patients.
