County of Simcoe invests in Waypoint

The new community health hub in Midland got a significant boost in July with a $615,359 donation from the County of Simcoe. The funding is part of a $45 million commitment in support of capital and redevelopment projects that will be allocated over 15 years to area hospitals that serve Simcoe County residents.

This funding brings the vision of a new, modern medical building with an innovative design nestled into the hill on the property closer to reality. The building includes a stunning façade with nighttime lighting, sidewalks and landscaping that complement the adjacent parkland and the proposed waterfront development across the street.

CHIGAMIK Community Health Centre and Waypoint’s outpatient and community programs will each have dedicated space in the building, along with the new Youth Wellness Hub, one of only ten approved in Ontario. Common rooms and meeting rooms will also be available for use by both organizations, including the potential for community collaboration. The building itself will have elements to accommodate the particular needs of children, patients and people with physical challenges.

Progress on construction continues with the base building nearing completion. Windows have been installed, exterior cladding almost complete along with the initial paving, sidewalks, storm retention pond, curbs and fencing.

Change planning to support the move has begun, with a representative from each organization co-chairing the Change Team. Team members will be looking at opportunities to support staff during planning and preparation for the move, as well as the early months after move-in.
