Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is a relatively common and frequently severe mental health condition that is often overlooked compared to other mental health illnesses. Treatment approaches are unique.
Check out the International OCD Foundation website for more information. http://iocdf.org/ You can also listen to CBC’s podcast telling what it's like to live with OCD and what people from all walks of life, from 14-year-old teenagers to former NHL players are doing to manage it.

On October 10, at the MCC, hear three very knowledgeable speakers talk about their experiences with OCD. Dr. Peggy Richter from Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto is an internationally acclaimed clinician, presenter and researcher who aims to better define the boundaries of OCD and improve treatment. Shirley Fielding, a retired mental health nurse, knows firsthand about the challenges of OCD as she helps her own son deal with his symptoms and ongoing struggles. Patricia Forward is a social worker and former teacher, originally from Ontario, who will be travelling here from British Columbia to share her experiences with dealing with the complexities and severity of OCD.
These three experts will tell us:
• How does OCD and related disorders like hoarding compare to other health challenges.
• The difference between OCD and the obsessive compulsive personality
• How best to help those living with OCD and support their caregivers.
