Waypoint welcomes new Vice President of Research and Academics

Waypoint President and CEO Carol Lambie is pleased toDr. Nathan Kolla announce the recruitment of Dr. Nathan Kolla as the hospital’s new Vice President of Research and Academics. 
Dr. Kolla is a psychiatrist and recently received a PhD in Neuroscience/Neuroimaging from the Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto. He has also completed the U of T Department of Psychiatry Clinician Scientist Program and has a Masters of Science in Forensic Mental Health Science (Distinction) from the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London.  Dr. Kolla is assuming the part time position of VP of Research and Academics at Waypoint following the recent retirement of Dr. Howard Barbaree in December 2016.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Dr. Kolla in this role and look forward to him continuing to build our research and academics program and the Waypoint Research Institute,” notes Carol Lambie, President and CEO. “We are in the second phase of a successful strategic plan to advance our research and academics program and his research training from the University of Toronto and King’s College London will be a huge asset.”

Dr. Kolla is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry with U of T’s Faculty of Medicine and holds a number of other academic appointments with the university. He has worked as a Staff Psychiatrist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) since 2011 and in the Minimum Secure Forensic Ward since 2014. He is also a Clinician Scientist in CAMH’s Research Imaging Centre. Dr. Kolla will continue his research at CAMH in addition to his senior leadership role at Waypoint.

His list of achievements is vast.  He has received many awards and grants as an independent investigator, regularly presents across Canada, the United States and worldwide, and has authored and co-authored numerous publications, articles and chapters. He sits on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law.

Dr. Kolla will begin working at Waypoint this summer. Recognition and thanks are extended to Dr. Barbaree who is continuing with Waypoint part time, and Dr. Kathleen Askland and Linda Adams, VP of Quality and Professional Practice who have taken on additional responsibilities in the Research and Academics portfolio since December.
